After more than a year, the Federal Administrative Court has a president again. Christian Filzwieser is highly qualified and stands above the parties, it was said on Friday. Filzwieser has headed Group V/B (integrated border management, immigration police, asylum and return) at the Federal Ministry of the Interior since October 2022.
In fact, he was only the third candidate for the position. The nomination committee placed Sabine Matejka, president of the Federal Court in Floridsdorf and until August also president of the judges’ association, in first place. According to the Greens, their elections failed because of the ÖVP. The party said the decision could no longer be postponed.
Go to the Equal Treatment Commission?
Matejka had previously considered going to the Equal Treatment Commission. Specifically during the debate, she resigned from her role as chairman of the Association of Judges.
