This Tuesday, the Basque Parliament approved the opinion on the reform of the so-called ‘trans law’, which passed this penultimate procedure before being finally approved by the plenary, with the support of the groups promoting this initiative (PNV, PSE -EE, EH Bildu and Elkarrekin Podemos-IU), while the PP voted against.

The bill, whose advice was approved in committee on Tuesday, aims to expand the rights and guarantees of ‘transgender people’. The proposal aims to guarantee the right of these people to receive “comprehensive and appropriate” government attention to their needs, and includes the right of minors in this group to be heard and participate in medical decision-making.

In the healthcare areathe proposal provides for an extension of the service portfolio (to adapt to medical and scientific progress) and establishes a six-month period for the implementation of the primary care services for transsexuality and the specialized unit, which will move from regulatory grade to legal grade go. rank. In the education systemNon-discrimination protocols will be developed on the basis of sexual identity, and in those centers where there are “trans” people, the department will ensure the training of the entire educational community, including teachers, administrative staff, families and students.
