The current ‘political duel’ on krone.tv also discusses the outcome of the upcoming National Council elections. Former FPÖ EU MP Andreas Mölzer corrects the usual expectations of the ÖVP: “Even though the Chancellor constantly calls up the Nehammer-Kickl duel in his Austrian speech, it is actually about the Nehammr-Babler duel. It’s about second place.”
According to the two duelists, the FPÖ victory is clear in any case. It would therefore be important that the next government is formed, which will come second. And that would be decided between the SPÖ and ÖVP. Eva Glawischnig: “In Nehammer’s Austria speech, mud buckets were thrown at the FPÖ, but the SPÖ was barely mentioned. But with Nehammer it is not about Kickl, but about Babler.” The credibility of Nehammer’s speech must also be questioned, because he could have implemented much of what the chancellor announced long ago in his current government. Glawischnig: “A lot of a speech like this is just a show.”
Andreas Babler as supporting actor
Mölzer analyzes the content of Nehammer’s speech with a smile: ‘It resembled the speech of a liberal district councilor from the Waldviertel.’ Glawischnig adds: ‘Communication duels are just a theater setting on such an occasion.’
Babler’s supposed supporting role was also discussed in the current match. Mölzer: “Not being included in Nehammer’s speech is like the carnival of Villach. If you as a politician are not dragged through the mud, you are also sad. And that is how things stand now for Andreas Babler.”
You can see the two duelists’ respective stances on these and many other political issues in the video above.
