Citizenship – Ludwig: “Facilitation for those born here”

Date:

Between the election for the Viennese SPÖ boss and Ernst Nevrivy’s “Häusel-Sager” there was still time at the state party conference last Saturday for a short conversation with the “Krone”: Viennese mayor Michael Ludwig on citizenship, inflation and masks .

Here’s what the city manager of Vienna tells us about a wide range of topics:

About the mask requirement…
At the state party conference in the Messe Wien, mouth and nose protection was allowed to take off when sitting, in buses, trams & Co. it only has to stay up in Vienna. Why is the subway more dangerous than the state party conference? Ludwig: “We had a security concept that foresaw that everyone in the room had recovered, had been vaccinated or had undergone a PCR test. And we suggested wearing face masks when leaving the square, which was the case in most cases.” How long is a face mask mandatory in public transport? The mayor: “It depends on the course of the pandemic. I make my decision based on conversations with the experts. It is a mild and reasonable way to protect yourself from the virus and a sign of charity and solidarity.”

About the price increases…
When will it be decided whether district heating will also become more expensive? Ludwig’s answer: “That depends on the calculations of the management and the company management. Then there is a complex approval process.” What else is happening for medium-sized companies?” It is now up to the federal government to do that. Of course we don’t resist when we see that there are target group-oriented needs,” continues Ludwig.

About citizenship…
“You have to look carefully at why some procedures take so long. The responsibility lies on the one hand with the federal legislator and on the other, of course, with the bureaucratic institutions,” explains the city manager. Incidentally, the pink coalition partner is responsible for this authority, MA 35. The city manager: “We are working on making more staff available for this agency. To some extent, that has already happened.” And: “I want better access when it comes to reducing bureaucratic and financial barriers.” What he wants to consider is “or make it easier for those who are already born here”.

About neutrality…
Michael Ludwig is against joining NATO. But who should protect the country in the face of the sometimes desolate federal army? Answer: “I was always of the opinion that the military should be so equipped to be able to repel a particular potential attack.” People had to be prepared to “stand up for neutrality and one’s own sovereignty”.

About a change in the Bund…
Is there any guarantee from Michael Ludwig that he will remain a local politician? Louis: “Yes!”

Outrage over ‘House Sayers’
Shortly after, there was a scandal at the state party conference. Donaustadt district manager Ernst Nevrivy called critics and the Greens “cottages”. The green member of the National Council Georg Bürstmayr: “It is not possible for Ludwig and the SPÖ to acknowledge this with applause.”
