According to the latest EITB Focus survey on the intention to vote in the 2023 municipal and regional elections, the PNV would win in the three capitals of the Basque Autonomous Community and gain an absolute majority in Bilbao. In an interview awarded to Euskadi Irratia’s “Faktoria” program, the director of the EH Bildu program, Pello Otxandiano, made a first assessment. In his opinion it is just a survey, there is still a year to go and the important thing is to see the trends of each. In that sense, he stressed that “all polls point to an upward trend for EH Bildu” and that this shows that “the project of left-wing sovereignty is consolidating”.

Pello Otxandiano believes EH Bildu has shown in recent months that he is able to reach consensus and “this will show in the next election.” He was hopeful about the possibilities of EH Bildu: “We are leaving a political phase behind us and new opportunities will arise in the near future.” In addition, he has emphasized that EH Bildu will have options to assume government responsibilities in the capitals after the next elections.

After the pandemic, he senses the public’s mistrust and distance from traditional politics and in that sense he thinks that the political debate in the coming months will influence abstinence among other things.

According to Pello Otxandiano, EH Bildu could form alliances with Elkarrekin Podemos and PSE-EE because “these alliances are natural and normal”. Likewise, he added that it should also be possible to reach an agreement with the PNV.
