The mayors of eleven Navarrese towns have signed a manifesto in which they reflect on a “attack on Navarrese political will, to the historical rights and self-government of Navarre’, the Supreme Court’s ruling this week that the transfer of the traffic competition.
The mayors of Torres del Río, Burlada, Alsasua, Zizur Mayor, Olite, Peralta, Roncal, Ansoáin, Donamaria, Zirauki and Pueyo have signed the manifesto calling for a concentration on March 2 at 5:30 PM on Paseo de Sarasate under the motto “Let’s defend Navarre” and they have invited the rest of the city councils to join.
Last Monday, the Supreme Court annulled the transfer of traffic to Navarre and for the aforementioned mayors “it is a response to a recentralizing political impulse from the state.”
For this reason, the manifesto states that they do not agree with it and consider it an attack on the self-government and political will of the majority of Navarre. “We argue that the historical powers of Navarre cannot depend on instruments outside the democratic political will of the Navarrese, nor can they respond to a recentralizing dynamic,” they explained.
“It’s not the first backlash who suffers self-government, “As it is necessary to take a strong response position so that the situation does not repeat itself, we demand respect,” she added.
The first council members of the above-mentioned municipal councils appreciated the appreciation search for legal formulas necessary to provide an effective solution to the situation created by the judgment.
