The new regulation of the Ministry of Health suspends all mask measures until the end of August. Criticism of this comes from the opposition, Vienna is once again taking a special path. There are strange things in the ÖBB.
On Tuesday, ministries reported 1903 new infections and the share of the corona subvariants BA.4 and BA.5 is increasing – yet face masks are mandatory on Wednesday in retail, pharmacies and public transport. This means that you are no longer obliged to wear a face mask in supermarkets, banks or public transport (see image below).
Vienna is different
Unless you live in the federal capital. Because Vienna has published an ordinance from the mayor that goes beyond the restrictions imposed by the federal government. In addition to the health sector, face masks must also be worn in all means of mass transport and pharmacies.
Announcements on trains, masks to hand out
Which can lead to strange situations, for example in commuter trains coming to Vienna from the federal states. According to ÖBB, there will be an announcement on trains before the city limits, automatically on most trains and by the train conductor on long-distance trains. Train conductors also personally point this out to passengers and have FFP2 masks with them to hand out.
Apparently no one in Vienna is thinking of further easing in the summer. Because the ordinance, like the federal ordinance, is limited to August 23.
SPÖ lacks preventive measures for autumn
Criticism comes from the opposition: in view of the increasing CoV numbers in Portugal, which has always been considered a “model” for development in Austria, the SPÖ is missing preventive measures before the fall. FPÖ is outraged that one is not considered fully immunized until after three vaccinations.
