Even though the parliamentary U-committees are about education – the big headlines – what remains for the parties but also for the voters is an election campaign, explains ‘Krone’ journalist Nikolaus Frings. “There is only one commission of inquiry because of the others. That is education, but it is also an election campaign.”
Frings follows both U-committees for the “Krone” and draws an initial conclusion: “All major parties help each other little or hardly at all. I think this could really help the protest parties or the beer party. Even though it must be said that really relevant matters come to light in the committees.”
“A room full of questions is waiting for Benko”
In any case, we are eagerly awaiting one or two invited people who will provide information in the two U committees. “If Rene Benko testifies, a room full of questions awaits. Because the COFAG-U committee is actually only about Benko.” Even Green faction leader Nina Tomaselli said it was actually the Benko-U committee.
It is also questionable whether FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl, who has probably already been invited to the committee, will come. “I think Kickl will think about it carefully. And when he comes, he can also use the performance as a stage – he is very well versed in rhetoric.”
“No one wants to lean too far out”
In general, the mood in the committees is strange. A screen serves as a privacy screen for the journalists. The tension between the parties is noticeable: “A little skeptical, a little cautious. Nobody wants to lean too far out and the super election year hangs over everything,” Frings outlines.
