Austrian right-wing extremist Martin Sellner is no longer allowed to travel to Germany. The city of Potsdam imposed a national travel ban on him on Tuesday. “We must show that the state is not powerless and is using its legitimate means,” said Potsdam Mayor Mike Schubert (SPD).
“We make it clear that democracy is defensible.” Sellner himself made the incident public on Platform X on Tuesday and presented a letter from the city of Potsdam about it. A city spokeswoman confirmed only that a notice had been sent to an EU citizen last week to establish the “loss of the right to free movement in the Federal Republic of Germany”. “The affected person” had been heard beforehand.
You can see a tweet from Sellner here.
Sellner is not allowed to stay in Germany or enter Germany. According to the spokeswoman, the ban applies ‘in principle immediately’. If the person concerned is currently in Germany, he should leave within a month. If he does not comply with the entry ban, the right-wing extremist risks deportation to Austria and criminal prosecution.
