An inspection by the electricity company showed that approximately thirty neighbors had fraudulently had the electricity connected to their home. One of these people would be the mayor himself.
The mayor of Sartaguda (Navarre), the socialist Beatriz Santos, has made public her resignation after it was discovered that she is one of dozens of residents of the city who had irregular access to the electricity supply, which she understands must be ‘a set an example and accept my mistake.
Santos has been mayor since the last municipal elections, in which PSN won 5 councilors and EH Bildu 4.
In a letter published on the municipal website, the former first mayor assured that resignation had been “personally a difficult decision” and asked for “forgiveness from all those people who may have felt disappointed.”
The letter does not reveal the reasons for the dismissal, although residents of Sartaguda have told EFE that personnel from the electricity distribution company recently conducted an inspection which revealed that “about 30 neighbors had fraudulently connected their electricity”, and one of them was Santos.
