Second election in Pongau – First female mayor: Huber wins against Huber

Date:

From now on, St. Johann im Pongau is in the hands of women: Eveline Huber (SPÖ) is the new mayor of the district capital. A surprise man won in Forstau, and the favorite finally won in Bad Gastein.

After the first round of voting, Eveline Huber was still just ahead of her competitor Rudolf Huber. Ultimately, she clearly won the second election for the mayoral seat in the capital of the district of Pongau, with 3253 (56 percent) against 2560 (44 percent).

“Of course I hoped that I would win the race,” says Eveline Huber. “I’m still trying to process that it really happened.”

Eveline Huber is the first SPÖ politician and woman to lead St. Johann. She is also the first woman head of a district capital in the entire state.

Black overtakes Rettensteiner
In Forstau, black is trump: Gregor Schwarz is the new local boss. The ÖVP has to give up the mayor’s seat for the first time in history. The entrepreneur and neo-politician Gregor Schwarz, who came second in the first round of voting, won against Martina Rettensteiner (ÖVP) with 236 votes to 177.

First a voice, then clear
In Bad Gastein a new man, Norbert Ellmauer (ÖVP), takes the helm. The candidate successor to the long-term local mayor Günther Steinbauer clearly had the upper hand in the second election against Franz Weiss (Liste Weiss). Ellmauer prevailed with 1,317 votes and 63.3 percent.

The second election came close: on March 10, Ellmauer received exactly half of the valid votes. One more vote and victory would have been his.
