The event starts at 11:00 am, with the reception of the participants by the acting mayor of Bilbao, Amaia Arregiand the members of ‘Euskal Herria Batera’ Mireia Epelde, Estitxu Garai And Xabier Euzkitzeto later make way for the reading of the declaration of the citizens’ initiative and the theater and dance shows.
According to ‘Euskal Herria Batera’, it is time to ‘act together’ in the face of the doubts created by the economic crisis, the climate crisis, wars or ‘the challenges that globalization poses for a Basque community without full sovereignty . ” For this reason, they believe that it is necessary to “be together among different people” to “deepen decision-making ability.”
This citizens’ initiative will once again call for “creating the conditions” to celebrate a “joint” Aberri Eguna. “We want to show ourselves to the world as we are and as we want to be in the future. We believe that the Aberri Eguna is not only a tradition, but also has a present and a future,” say its representatives.
They are also convinced that, given the changes that have occurred in Basque society, it is necessary to “renew, adapt, rejuvenate and expand connection with the nation”. In this context, they committed to continue to extend their call to institutions, actors and “that broad sector of society that builds the present and future of the Basque community economically, socially, academically, scientifically and culturally, with the aim of aim to give Euskal Herria a better future”.
