He Political Council by UPN gathered this morning at Pamplona decided to debate the partial amendments tabled to the legal, programmatic and political presentations reject the two amendments proposed by two activists during the period of contributions to the documents in which they presented translate the name of the party into Basque regionalist.

According to information published by Newspaper of Navarre, The decision has been amended for two reasons: because it is not common for Navarrese political parties to have their names in both Spanish and Basque and because the Political Council considers that the new name is not an effective policy in favor of the Basque language would be.

The proposal

The two UPN affiliates presented changes to the proposed statutes to translate the regionalist party’s name into Basque. Both argued that the party should have greater sensitivity towards the Basque Country attract socialist and Basque votes, but along the way they encountered a problem. ‘Union’ is translated in Basque as ‘Batasuna’ Union of the Navarrese People (UPN) I would be Nafarroako Herriaren Batasuna (NHB) and in order not to use that word they looked for alternatives.

An Estella branch proposed Nafar Herriaren Batzeawhich would not entail any change to the acronym: NHB.

The other branch, from Andosilla, proposed more options, specifying that these have not yet been corrected by a Basque expert: Elkarrekin Nafarroaren Herrikora and Navarrako Herriarentzat Elkarrekin.

The amendments were rejected.
