The general coordinator of EH Bildu, Arnaldo Otegideclared today that “we are in a new political cycle that must open a new model of governance.”
EH Bildu’s Political Table met this afternoon to read the election day results in more depth. Otegi then appeared before the press.
Otegi has assured that voters are asking for “more nationalist policies, more sovereigntist policies and left-wing policies.”
The coalition’s general coordinator wanted to make his opinion known “very sincere thanks” to the electorate, both to the Basque diaspora and to the militancy the day after election day. For the trust placed in the first two and for conducting a “great campaign” towards the third parties.
“There is change,” Otegi emphasized at the start of his performance. According to the leader of EH Bildu, Sunday’s results reflect “a structural trend, not only in three provinces, but in the whole of Euskal Herria.”
Otegi has pointed out that EH Bildu has “experienced spectacular growth, that is the reality.” In addition, the leader wanted to emphasize the good results they have achieved not only in rural areas, but also in urban areas. In this sense, he wanted to recall that they govern in Pamplona and that in Donostia-San Sebastián they are on the same level as the PNV and managed to achieve victory in Vitoria-Gasteiz. Of course, he has acknowledged that the Jeltzales in Bilbao still have “an advantage” over them.
“Our trend is not temporary, but structural”, he stood on it. Otegi emphasized that EH Bildu won in two of the three areas (Gipuzkoa and Álava) of the BAC. “EH Bai and EH Bildu have been surpassed the limit of 420,000 votes in Euskal Herria,” he emphasized.
The leader of EH Bildu has indicated this 55 out of 75 parliamentarians of the Chamber of Vitoria-Gasteiz are “abertzales” (PNV and EH Bildu) and 40 out of 75 “left” (EH Bildu, PSE-EE and Sumar). “People voted nationalist and left-wing,” he added. For this reason, Arnaldo Otegi has asked whether ultimately in Euskadi “there will be an abertzale addition, an addition to the left or whether we will go to self-sufficient governments.”
“Of course, if it is for EH Bildu, with a broad smile, with all the peace in the worldWith all the patience in the world, we are in no hurry; because we go very far, it will not be for us, but we believe that we must comply with what the people voted for, which is more sovereignty and more left-wing policies,” he indicated.
