The general coordinator of EH Bildu believes that negotiations between the PNV and the PSE-EE will proceed quickly to reach a government agreement. In this sense, he has urged them not to limit the debates arising from the ‘popular mandate’.

After last Sunday’s elections for the Basque parliament, the deadline has now arrived to elect the lehendakari and form a government. The general coordinator of EH Bildu, Arnaldo Otegidoes not rule out presenting Otxandiano hair to the inauguration, as happened four years ago with Maddalen Iriarte, realizing that this represents an alternative government. However, he stated that there is still no decision on the matter.
In an interview in Euskadi Irratia, Otegi indicated that it is up to Pradales to start round contacts to form a government starting with EH Bildu. As he explained, they have not received any calls from the PNV at this time, but EH Bildu has reached out to talk.
Otegi believes negotiations between the two will proceed quickly the PNV and the PSE-EE to reach a coalition agreement. Moreover, he has accused the Yeltzales of sending contradictory messages as, in his opinion, they have gone from not trusting Sánchez in the campaign to showing the intention to form a governing coalition with the PSE-EE on the same election night. “It’s Groundhog Day,” he added.
On the other hand, Otegi has urged the PNV and the PSE-EE to continue the debates arising from the “popular mandate” (more nationalist policies, more sovereigntist policies and left-wing policies).
In a different vein, Otegi has emphasized that EH Bildu is a new management model, more than a government formula. According to him, it is “a matter of philosophy”, and if the majority of the Basque parliament is nationalist, the PSE-EE will have to accept the debate on political status and the same should happen with the PNV and budgetary policy.
Finally, Otegi believes that the impact of controversy over ETA it had little impact on the results during the campaign. Likewise, he has called for this issue to be taken out of the election period and has called on the rest of the parties to sit at the table and each acknowledge the pain caused.
