The elections for the Chamber of Labor in Burgenland have been defeated. The Social Democratic Trade Union Group (FSG) can defend first place, but must accept losses.
The Social Democratic Trade Union Group (FSG) and its top candidate Gerhard Michalitsch (2nd from right) clearly won the elections with 68.8 percent of the votes. Nevertheless, the FSG lost one mandate to the Freedom Workers (four mandates) and now has 36 mandates.
Burgenland governor Hans Peter Doskozil still speaks of a “great success”. The FSG is a strong partner in the fight against inflation and for fair and higher wages: “The election results show that working people value the FSG as a strong representative.”
Turquoise is gaining ground
The ÖVP, which received nine mandates, obviously sees things differently. “Our gains are remarkable and in clear contrast to the national trend. The significant losses for the SPÖ show that the political mood in Burgenland is changing. More and more Burgenlanders do not agree with the current course of the SPÖ and state governor Doskozil,” explains Christian Sagartz, chairman of the ÖVP state party.
Together, AUGE/UG is also happy with a mandate. Green state spokesperson Anja Haider-Wallner congratulates the team, especially top candidate Maria Mauk, and explains: “The increase in votes shows that a green and independent alternative in the Chamber of Labor is desired by employees, especially in times like this.”
Downer
In total, approximately 81,000 employees were eligible to vote. However, only 27,083 of them – a third – used their vote. Absentee ballots are still being counted. The final results of the elections should be known on Saturday.
