In the “Rainer Nowak Talk” on krone.tv on Wednesday evening, Corinna Scharzenberger (ÖVP), Kai Jan Krainer (SPÖ), Christian Hafenecker (FPÖ) and David Stögmüller (Greens) spoke with each other. It was extremely emotional.
How useful are the current committees? Rainer Nowak asked this question in his conversation with prominent party representatives. And what to do with René Benko, who has canceled his performance again. Until now, the threat of a police presentation has always been enough. This time it could happen, said SPÖ faction leader Kai Jan Krainer. All parties would be in favor of the worst happening. That’s it for unity. The Cofag committee is struggling with a lack of witnesses and has no plan, says black Corinna Scharzenberger. “I don’t know which events you were at,” replied FPÖ faction leader Hafenecker, who doubted the usefulness of the “Red-Blue Swamp Committee”.
There was a great argument. Super-rich people like Benko or Wolf were preferred by the financial sector – that was a realization, said SPÖ man Kai Jan Krainer. If the control doesn’t work, then “there’s a fire on the roof here.” Scharzenberger: “The only thing the Cofag committee has achieved is that the finances work.”
Intense dispute over espionage
The affair surrounding suspected spy Egisto Ott and the political context were also discussed. It became very emotional. Herbert Kickl betrayed Austria or failed as Minister of the Interior. “Why then did Ott make a career at Mikl-Leitner and Sobotka? The ÖVP has been part of the Ministry of the Interior for 24 years,” Hafenecker replied.
The suspicion: A spy ring was formed involving Ott, his partner Weiss and the fugitive Marsalek. Krainer: “The FPÖ allowed itself to be exploited. For house searches at BVT under Kickl. And the ÖVP gave Mr. Ott full access until the British Secret Service came forward in 2022 and said he was a spy. The suspicion had existed since 2017.” It went back and forth. Krainer: “It is unbearable that people just point fingers at each other when it comes to such an important topic.” There is unity here. And: The ÖVP announces a Kickl Russia committee. Also urgently needed for the Green Stögmüller. “It’s not just about the spy ring, but also about larger Russian networks.” FPÖ man Hafenecker led the way to the Chamber of Commerce. So to the ÖVP.
