The President of the Basque Parliament, Bakartxo Tejeriahas once again emphasized the need to modernize Basque self-government, through an agreement with the state, just as she did in her first intervention after her re-election. In his opinion, “there is an opportunity, a certain institution that I believe should be abused.” In this sense, he emphasized that today there is a commitment between the PNV and the PSE, to ‘negotiate’, ‘try to reach an agreement’ to establish ‘the future self-government of this country’.

In an interview on Radio Euskadi’s ‘Boulevard’ programme, Tejeria defended that negotiations to form a government between Yeltzales and socialists would be ‘discreet’. According to him, all parties conduct negotiations in this way, “including EH Bildu.” Moreover, he has responded to Otxandiano’s criticism that once the agreement is reached, they will speak to the rest of the groups. “It’s always been done this way,” he added.

When asked about the complaint filed by Vox with the Basque Parliamentary Council, recalled that the distribution of space in the offices of the Basque Parliament is “adapted to the needs” and that “there has never been any problem in this regard”. As an example, he mentioned that in the previous term, Vox had an office of 47 square meters for one representative, while Podemos and PP, with six parliamentarians each, had offices of about 95 square meters. “This says it all,” he summarized.

Finally, Tejeria has identified Saturday, June 22, as the most likely date for the inauguration of the future Lehendakari at the Gernika Assembly House, although the date of the investiture This will be announced during the plenary session next Thursday.
