Parliament already has a proposal with rules of conduct and also a chapter on sanctions, while the regional government is analyzing the possibility of using examples such as those of a number of agencies and organizations that can contribute to progress in this area.
The government and parliament of Navarre are working together to implement several measures to “fight disinformation, not information, which must be truthful and verified” to clear up political debate and the threats that hoaxes and attacks pose to democracy.
To this end, Parliament has already proposed a code of conduct that will be transferred to the political groups in the near future and will contain rules of conduct as well as a chapter on violations and sanctions, while the provincial government is analyzing the possibility of using examples such as those of some agencies and organizations that, such as EFE Verifica or Iberifier, can contribute to progress in this field.
This was highlighted at a press conference after a meeting at the Palace of Navarre by the President of the Government, María Chivite, and the Speaker of the Parliament, Unai Hualde, both concerned about the level of ‘crispity’ that they believe has been reached. the current legislature, the political debate in Navarra, but also the disinformation that citizens often manage in this area through social networks.
Chivite has thus appreciated the opportunity shared this Friday with Hualde to “share an institutional reflection on how to improve democratic quality”, a scenario in which politics must start “from a principle of respect and the elevation of debates”, but “not only in terms of content, but also in terms of form.”
For his part, the Speaker of Parliament, Unai Hualde, has agreed to appreciate the reflection he shared with the President and reaffirmed his “commitment” to strengthening the democratic system by combating disinformation and “reducing tension and tension of political debate”. , as well as polarization”.
