Anzengruber sworn in – The new Innsbruck city council can now get to work

Date:

May makes everything new: Innsbruck’s city council was sworn in on Friday. Johannes Anzengruber (JA) has now taken the mayor’s seat for the first time. There are still 15 faces left of the old municipal council, and there are 25 “new” faces. Georg Willi (Greens) and Elli Mayr (SPÖ) were confirmed as deputy mayors.

The plenary hall in the town hall was packed on Friday for the founding meeting of the new Innsbruck city council. The newly elected mayor Johannes Anzengruber took the chairman’s chair for the first time.

Florian Tursky takes leave until 2030
It was the first time for most city council members: for every 15 familiar faces, there were 25 new ones. In the background and all around there are countless faction and family members, curious people and a lot of media hype. Governor Anton Mattle (ÖVP) was present at the swearing-in ceremony. LR René Zumtobel and LA Zeliha Arslan also insisted on being present. Who was not there: election loser Florian Tursky (Das Neue Innsbruck). He took a leave of absence until May 2030. As reported, Markus Stoll took his place.

FPÖ, List Fritz and The New Innsbruck are against it
The swearing-in of the deputy mayors took place without incident: 28 voted for Georg Willi (Greens), eleven elected representatives did not want to see him in office and once an invalid election was held. Second Vice Mayor Elli Mayr (SPÖ) was elected with 29 yes votes and eleven no votes. The division of departments – the readers of “Krone” know this – was also accepted, with votes against it from the FPÖ, the Fritz List and the Neue Innsbruck.

The church must act selflessly
In his speech, Anzengruber, as usual, vowed all factions to work together peacefully. “Together, we have it in our hands to show citizens that we mean business and, as defined in the oath, act selflessly in the best interest of the citizens.”

Insist on an equitable distribution of federal and state funds
But he not only held the new mandates responsible, but also addressed a serious word to the state governor: As the state capital, you are in the center, the entire state is looking at Innsbruck: “This entails financial burdens for the inhabitants of Innsbruck. We have to do this together, please. That’s why I’m asking you for an equitable distribution of federal and state funds. So that we can do justice to our duties in the capital.” This was followed by a customary reception for the state.
