Pernando Barrena, head of EH Bildu’s list for Europe, explained that the team will work with the seven Basque areas in mind. Barrena has promised that “Iparralde’s political, economic and social issues and concerns will be present in the European Parliament.”
EH Bai has announced this will not be present in the European Parliament elections and EH Bildu will represent to the citizens of Lapurdi, Baja Navarra and Zuberoa. This was explained on Saturday by representatives of EH Bildu and EH Bai during a joint appearance in Baiona.
The spokesperson of EH Bai, Mathilde Hary, and the member of EH Bai and candidate in the European elections, Oier Imaz, took part, while the head of the list for the European elections, Pernando Barrena, was present from EH Bildu, and the parliamentarian and candidate for the European elections, Oihana Etxebarrieta.
Barrena explained that EH Bildu accepts and respects EH Bai’s decision not to run for the European elections and has “committed” to bringing the problems and concerns of the citizens of Ipar Euskal Herria to the European Parliament. According to him, “Iparralde’s political, economic and social issues and concerns will be present in the European Parliament in the next term. We will maintain a direct and ongoing relationship with EH Bai’s representatives and with the officers and citizens of Lapurdi. , Baja Navarra and Zuberoa who so wish, to jointly address any issues that may arise in the next legislative term.”
The sovereigntist candidate has explained that the formation will work with the seven Basque territories in mind. As he emphasized: “EH Bildu will be the reference for the seven territories of Euskal Herria in Europe, because Iparralde and Hegoalde have shared challenges.” Likewise, he has declared that, contrary to “what the right and the far right deny in the Spanish and French states”, Euskal Herria “is a nation” and that this claim will be at the center of all its activities in Europe. “We are a country that wants to freely decide its future and this must be demonstrated in Europe, making allies and seeking complicity,” he stressed.
