The federal government will release support payments amounting to five million euros to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund during the next Council of Ministers on Wednesday. The money will be used to rebuild Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which was badly damaged after more than two years of war, as the Ministry of Climate Protection announced on Monday.
Last year, the ministry of Leonore Gewessler (Greens) made ten million euros available.
Ambassador praises “signal of solidarity”
“As a neutral country, Austria also has a duty to stand on the side of humanity in this war,” Gewessler said. The goal is to use the money to “at least somewhat simplify the reconstruction.” The Ukrainian Ambassador to Austria, Wassyl Chymynez, thanked us for a “strong signal of solidarity”.
“Against the background of Russian attempts to destroy the energy infrastructure in Ukraine through air strikes and artillery shelling, this financial support from the Federal Government is extremely important to restore the energy infrastructure objects and provide electricity to the people of Ukraine, Chymynez said .
The money comes from the budget of the Ministry of Climate Protection. The money will be distributed through the Energy Community in Ukraine and used to purchase urgently needed spare parts, generators and repair lines.
