After the governor of Lower Austria, Johanna Mikl-Leitner, called on radio stations to “reconsider the well-intentioned self-censorship” in connection with the ban on the song “L’Amour Toujours” by Gigi D’Agostino in the “Krone” on Sunday , took a position Youth State Secretary Claudia Plakolm also made this clear. For her, “L’Amour Toujours” is “a song of solidarity.”
Videos of drunken partygoers chanting racist slogans to the beat of the song famously sparked media outrage and public outrage surrounding Gigi D’Agostino’s song “L’amour toujours”. As is known, radio stations even removed the song from their programs. At Kronehit the cancel culture has now been abolished! The popular radio station plays the love song despite it being abused by racist chants. The broadcaster says it does not understand why an artist who cannot do anything about it has to pay for it.
D’Agostino himself clearly distanced himself from this abuse. The governor of Lower Austria, Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP), also commented on the discussions on Sunday. “Many young people who voluntarily organize summer festivals for their clubs are now restless. They ask me if they can still play this song or if it will put them in the right place. And these concerns can really be taken away from them,” the head of the country told the “Krone”. ÖVP party member and State Secretary for Youth Claudia Plakolm is now in the same vein.
“We have room for so many different opinions and ways of life in this country, from the Vorarlbergers to the Burgenlanders, from the Freedom Party to the Greens and from the Goldhoods to the e-sports club. But we have no place for right-wing radicals and anti-Semites. There is no place for people who experience division instead of inclusivity. And we certainly won’t let such people take away a song that was played in the most beautiful moments of our youth and of which we have many good memories,” the ÖVP Young Hope explains on Instagram.
For her, “L’Amour Toujours” is a song of solidarity. “And it will remain that way. We will continue to dance and party without feeling guilty,” the 29-year-old explains.
