Speaking at a right-wing demonstration in Vienna, an Upper Austrian FPÖ official announced that the Freedom Youth had joined forces with the Identitarians. He announced the “beginning of something very, very big.” This incident is also specifically reflected in the current report of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution.
The recently published Constitutional Protection Report 2023 breaks a taboo: it points out for the first time the involvement of a parliamentary party in the activities of the right-wing extremist scene. In concrete terms, it speaks of a “right-wing party and its frontline organization”. What is mainly meant is the Freedom Youth (FJ) and their relationship to the Identitarians (IBÖ).
The report also specifically mentions an action by the Upper Austrian FJ state chairman and Eferdinger FP town councilor Silvio Hemmelmayr, who appeared as a speaker at a “remigration demonstration” organized by the Identitarians with foreign participants (Germany, Italy, Belgium and Switzerland).
Collaboration between IBÖ and FJ
The 27-year-old lawyer publicly announced on July 29, 2023 in Vienna that solidarity had been reached between the IBÖ and his FJ, which would be “just the beginning of something very, very big.”
It is clear that Hemmelmayr and the blue youth are now receiving special attention from the state security forces.
“I think that is completely exaggerated – I am not an enemy of the constitution, I am on its side,” Hemmelmayr emphasizes in the “Krone” interview. The solidarity with the IBÖ refers to the fact that they are against Islamization and illegal immigration.
