The Austrian ‘Education Action Day’ took place in the Sigmund-Freud Park. About 4,000 participants gathered to protest for better education in Austria. Education Councilor Christoph Wiederkehr (NEOS): “School should be fun again.”
The ‘Education Action Day’ took place on Thursday, where around fifty organizations and civil society initiatives came together to demand better conditions in schools and common education for people with and without disabilities, from kindergarten to university. A central focus of the event was to strengthen inclusion in the education system and ensure that all students, regardless of their individual needs, receive equal educational opportunities.

The leisure teachers from ‘Education at the Focus’ were also present in Vienna, just like on the first day of action a year ago. They took the opportunity to demonstrate against the proposed change to their job profile. The planned reforms pursued by the government could have a significant impact on working conditions and the recognition of the professional qualifications of leisure teachers.
They therefore called for a reconsideration of the changes and recognition of their important contribution to education. With 8,000 participants meeting in Bregenz, Innsbruck, St. Pölten, Steyr, Graz, Klagenfurt and Vienna, the message is clear: improvements in education are essential. Parents, pupils, teachers, pupils and students have together sent a strong signal to demand better learning and working conditions. From 4:30 p.m., 4,000 people marched through the city in a long demonstration to make their demands even clearer.
