Chivite accepts mediation at the request of farmers investigating sexist insults in Olite

The President of Navarre, María Chivite, has agreed to criminal mediation at the request of the three people investigated for insulting her last March in Olite, in the context of the protests of the collective of farmers and ranchers.

As confirmed by the lawyer Guillermo Chaverrirepresenting some of the farmers under investigation, once Chivite has accepted the request, the matter will now be referred to the mediators, who will determine the procedure to be followed to try to reach an agreement on restorative justice.

Is about an alternative process for justice which must be accepted by both parties and usually aims at a rapprochement of positions, which in this case could include the recognition of the facts and the request for an apology on the one hand and their acceptance by the other.

The events took place when Chivite went to a Euroregion meeting in Olitewhere a group of farmers and ranchers had gathered as part of the protests they had been waging for weeks to improve their conditions.

At some point some of them said something sexist insults against the president, who at that time already announced that he would not tolerate these expressions and announced that the authors would be prosecuted.

So shortly afterwards these three people were called up identified at the provincial police station, where they were told that they would be summoned to the court in Tafalla to testify about the events, although the three persons under investigation had proposed criminal mediation, a referral now accepted by the injured party.
