The climate minister’s appearance at the energy savings fair in Wels last Friday was eagerly awaited – especially by owners of PV systems who want to retrofit storage. And Gewessler delivered: she announced that such purchases would also be supported in the future.
The number of visitors on the first day of the fair in Wels, which runs until Sunday, showed that the topic of energy saving has reached the population. Above all, the increasing interest in recent months in generating one’s own electricity using solar photovoltaics has brought about a real boom in the sector.
Claim from Upper Austria
In view of the strained network capacities, experts have been recommending for some time to no longer rely on feeding it into the network, but to store the excess electricity produced. The catch that irritates many people is that until now there has been no funding for later installed storage devices. As reported, Energy State Councilor Markus Achleitner (ÖVP) had demanded a commitment from Energy Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) to introduce this financing in the run-up to the trade fair.
Minister announces new financing at Welser Messe
And she promptly did so: “This financing starts on April 10,” the minister announced in her opening speech. Achleitner immediately claimed success for himself: “The Climate Ministry is thus responding to the pressure from Upper Austria and finally putting an end to its sluggishness.”
In addition, a scheme to promote larger PV systems and for companies has been submitted for assessment.
