The election of the Chairman of the National Council takes place today. The FPÖ nominated Walter Rosenkranz. Left-wing activists don’t like that at all. At dawn, a handful of protesters gathered in front of Parliament to express their dismay. A rosary was symbolically laid (see video above).
The small Viennese party LENKS was responsible for the campaign and achieved 2.06 percent in the municipal and state elections in 2020. In this year’s National Council elections, the LEFT formed an alliance with the KPÖ (2.4 percent).
“Be careful when choosing a wreath”
On Thursday morning, some activists marched with a funeral procession in front of Parliament to demonstrate against the election of Walter Rosenkranz as the first president of the National Council. They then laid a funeral wreath with the slogan ‘Democracy – be careful when choosing a wreath’.
Photos of the funeral procession:
“Rosenkranz is a member of the German National Association”
“Rosenkranz is a member of the German nationalist brotherhood, a friend of the right-wing extremist criminal group ‘Identitarian Movement’ and publicly praises self-declared national socialists such as NSDAP member Johann Karl Stich. The LEFT considers the filling of democratic offices by politicians like Rosenkranz as a danger to democracy,” the report said in a broadcast.
“A right-wing extremist brotherhood member as Speaker of the House is more than just breaking a taboo, it is not enough to say ‘defend the beginning’, NO is asked and NEVER asked,” one of the activists at the funeral procession emphasized.
An activist warned all parties represented in parliament: “All newly elected parliamentarians know who Walter Rosenkranz is. Anyone who votes for him is complicit.”
