In the krone.tv speech in parliament, Astrid Rössler, member of the Green National Council, defends Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler’s move to approve the EU renaturation law. “It was a great decision on her part, which was well prepared. In terms of content, we know more that there is a broad consensus among the population about the law.”
When asked whether it was a courageous step, Rössler says: “It was substantively justified and legally correct and therefore understandable and important in the case. Brave in the sense that obviously everyone was concerned about whether this would happen at EU level. We were the decisive country and that is why it was so important.”
Rössler doubts whether the ÖVP’s appeal for annulment will have any consequences for the decision. “The decision was made in a legally compliant and valid manner. The government partner’s response will be assessed. But the courts will do that.” Rössler understands the situation only to a limited extent because it is a “common, important concern”.
“Very good agreement in committees”
Rössler also sees no changes in the collaboration. “I come from the Justice Committee, we are working on such a long agenda in a very factual manner and in very good agreement. We are working hard and are very challenged in all committees.”
