As tradition dictates, the fifteen councilors of the new Basque government have announced what their main lines of action and objectives will be after taking office, which took place in Ajuria Enea Palace from Vitoria-Gasteiz. The first to appear was the first deputy lehendakari and Minister of Culture and Language Policy, Ibone Bengoetxea, who emphasized that culture, the Basque Country and sport are “powerful instruments” of social transformation and also of “cultural diplomacy” and committed to ensuring that their impact on people’s well-being and the value chain of these sectors will be maximized are. effective.” One of the objectives is to promote the increasing use of Basque in society and the use of this language in Europe as an official language.

Then it was the turn of the Second Vice President and Advisor of Economy, Labor and Employment, Michael Torres. The Socialist leader has announced that he will call on representative social agents this week to hold a meeting “immediately” and “keep the channels of communication alive.” In terms of employment, he has spoken of “a leap” to a “decent and quality job, with better salaries”. Likewise, he has assured that he intends to link “the big macroeconomic figures” to the “small realities” of the daily lives of companies, small and medium-sized enterprises, companies and households.

For her part, the Minister of Administration, Digital Administration and Self-Government and spokesperson for the new Basque government, Maria Ubarrechena, has indicated that now is the time to see Euskadi grow in self-governance, and has pledged to work with “courage” because complex problems do not have simple answers. In this sense, he has put forward that, in addition to defending self-governance, his management will focus on improving the governance model, promoting social participation and giving impetus to the digitalization of governance.

He stressed that industry is “the driving force of Euskadi, competitiveness and quality employment” and also the “bet for the future” of the Basque government, which wants the autonomous community to “lead the European industrial renaissance”. It has also called for “making the most of the opportunity” offered by the Law on Energy Transition and Climate Change “to invest in energy efficiency in the industrial field, accelerate the development of renewable energies and restore the ecological biodiversity of the Basque Country.”
