The President of the Parliament of Catalonia, Josep Rull, has confirmed that there is no candidate with sufficient support to undergo an investiture to preside over the Generalitat, and has announced the countdown of two months until an investiture takes place or, if not, that the House be dissolved and the elections repeated.
In his speech last Wednesday before the plenary session of Parliament, Rull informed the plenary session of the “impossibility” of nominating a candidate to the House within the first period of ten days after the composition of Parliament, after having completed a round of had held consultations with all representatives of political parties.
He explained that there have been two groups that have “expressed their desire to explore the possibilities” of building an investment deal in the next two months. Therefore, this period for one of these groups starts until August 26 –PSC and Junts– try to gather support.
Salvador Illa (PSC) and Carles Puigdemont (Junts) have asked for more time to gather the necessary support. Illa, winner of the Catalan elections on May 12 with 42 seats, must convince Comuns and ERC. Puigdemont, for his part, must bind the twenty ERC votes and convince the PSC to abstain, something that the Socialists have already ruled out.
If no candidate is invested on August 26 President of the Generalitat, Peré Aragonés, must elections to the Parliament of Catalonia on October 13.
