EH Bildu and Sumar claim responsibility for the incidents in Donostia in which a woman was injured

A video shows the woman being kicked by an Ertzaintza officer as she tried to escape the attack towards the mole station.

EH Bildu and Sumar have asked to investigate and clarify the “responsibilities” for the incidents in which this happened a woman was injured on March 5 in Donostia-San Sebastián, after receiving a blow to the head moments earlier of the Champions League match between Real Sociedad and Paris Saint-Germain.

The publication of a video of the moment of the incidents prompted the groups to ask the Basque Parliament to take the necessary responsibilities for this event, which already prompted the opening of an investigation by the Ertzaintza at the time.

In the video An attack by the Ertzaintza is observed near the Topo de Anoeta station and the injured woman falls to the ground, after which she gets up and sits next to the station. an Ertzaintza officer kicks him.

The victim The 44-year-old did not participate in the arguments and was forced to do so admitted to the ICU of Donostia Hospital for the head injuries he sustained.

The EH Bildu MP Julen Arzuagabelieves that this video “demonstrates the indiscriminate aggression of an officer of the Ertzaintza Mobile Brigade on the victim” and emphasizes “the need to take stronger measures against the violent and disproportionate actions” of the Basque police.

Arzuaga considers it necessary ‘that this case goes through the courts determine and refine responsibilities of the officer who attacked the woman” and that “the disciplinary files opened in the Ertzaintza in recent years are known and have been analyzed in depth to obtain a clear diagnosis of these actions that concern citizens.”

In this sense, the elected member of EH Bildu has claimed: “stronger measures“because “the files opened so far” are only the tip of the iceberg of irregular police actions” and furthermore “in many cases they are closed without reaching a conclusion or with ridiculous sanctions of a few days’ employment and salary.”

For this reason, he has demanded “access to these files and that a debate be opened on them”. how we can restore and provide justice to these victimsamong them, the woman who was the victim of that unnecessary attack in Anoeta,” while asking for “guarantees so that events like this do not happen again.”

“In the case of Anoeta – he continued – the woman was attacked as she lay on the ground after being shot with a foam projectile, events that coincided with other violent actions by the Ertzaintza in Tolosa, Vitoria, Bilbao and Astigarraga.” .

For Arzuaga, from what happened in those cases we can draw as “conclusions” the existence of “an unacceptable violent attitude on the part of the members of the Ertzaintza” and “a reaction by the Ministry, then led by Josu Erkoreka, to cover up the situation. responsibilities by missing even the truth and pointing to improbable justifications”.

“It is the legacy of Erkoreka: closing ranks in the face of cases of disproportionate violence and an absolute lack of clarification and transparency,” EH Bildu leader concluded.

For his part, Sumar lawmaker Jon Hernándezhas ruled that the Ertzaintza version of these incidents is riddled with “inconsistencies and contradictions” and has emphasized that “in these situations of excessive and disproportionate police violence, it is necessary to investigating and debugging all types of responsibilities“.

Hernández has therefore registered a series of questions in the Basque Parliament to “clarify what happened” and to find out “whether we are dealing with an accident or negligence, as indicated by the family of the injured and the witnesses present there.”

Hernández believes that the facts “have not been clarified rigorously” and recalled that “the family is challenging legal and police obstacles to clarifying whether what really happened was an accident or negligence.”
