Following the “Krone” report on allegations against high-ranking lawyers at the ministry, the ÖVP general secretary goes on the attack.
The accusations, made through “Krone” and “Presse”, against one of the closest confidantes of Justice Minister Alma Zadić (Greens), are serious. And they are causing a stir, especially among the ÖVP. According to a complaint, the minister’s chief of staff and close confidant of ex-politician and debunker Peter Pilz allegedly illegally passed on files.
Including Pilz himself. He denies all allegations, just like the minister and her employee. The Public Prosecution Service is now investigating the first suspicions. However, the accused lawyer is considering legal action for defamation. The advertisement, by the way, comes from a former Secret Service employee.
ÖVP General Christian Stocker: “Alma Zadić owes the public full information. Anything else is completely unacceptable. Because if one of the closest associates of the Minister of Justice is accused of unlawfully passing on confidential judicial files, then this accusation is simply too serious.”
A trail leads to the “Pilnacek files”
Stocker also directs his accusations at the commission that Zadić set up after the Pilnacek files, which were so incriminating for the ÖVP, became public. According to the audio recording, the deceased, a former highest judicial official, claimed that the ÖVP wanted him to influence various procedures. Which the ÖVP of course denies.
Stocker: “It is also questionable whether an investigation that is independent of Zadić is not actually necessary, especially since the Minister of Justice can give instructions to both the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Pilnacek Commission. In any case, even the appearance of bias must be avoided here. Even if the accusations are now disputed, these accusations are so serious that they make an independent investigation necessary.”
Incidentally. The excitement arose just before the publication of a book by Peter Pilz next Tuesday entitled: “EASTERN BLOCK – Putin, Kickl and their ÖVP”. The Pilnacek case and the hunt for his laptop also appear in the book, but the focus is more on revelations about FPÖ boss and former Interior Minister Herbert Kickl. In addition to ‘Russian connections’, it also concerns alleged document destruction by the former secret service BVT.
