The EM dream is over for the ÖFB team, but the euphoria in the country remains. There was also a lot of praise for Ralf Rangnick’s ‘boys’ from local politicians.
Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP), who watched the match with Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) in Leipzig, wrote about [..] Thank you for your great performance during this tournament! Austria is proud of you!”
Kogler also praised the team boss’s work in particular: “The football nation is proud of you. Because you left everything behind and have nothing to reproach yourself for. Now we can first mourn. But then it is important to further expand the foundation that has been laid so skillfully over the past two years.”
SPÖ leader Andreas Babler said: “Strong play and we fought very well! Even though it wasn’t enough today, we can be very proud of what our great ÖFB team has achieved in recent weeks.”
NEOS boss Beate Meinl-Reisinger summed up the atmosphere in Vienna: “I’m going home from watching the game in the Prater, everywhere: “We were better” “Next World Cup!”
Lower Austrian Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner followed the match during the public viewing in Melk: “Unfortunately, our summer fairy tale ends in the round of 16. The team has managed to unleash unprecedented football euphoria throughout the country in recent weeks. Big congratulations to the team boss and the entire ÖFB team.” Their deputy Udo Landbauer (FPÖ) thanked the ÖFB team “for a great tournament”.
