The new spokesman for the Basque Government has indicated that the priority will be to implement the Bilateral Commission in order to “advance more quickly in the transfer of powers”. At the moment, no date has been set.
The spokesperson of the Basque Government and Minister of Governance, Digital Governance and Self-Government, Maria Ubarretxenahas indicated that he will ask the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory of the Spanish Government: Victor Torreswith whom he hopes to launch the Standing Committee on Bilateral Cooperation“, which “enables faster progress in the transfer of powers“.
This was announced at the press conference after the Basque Government Council, where he explained that they are in talks with the ministry and “exchanging agendas” for the meeting they are going to hold and that they hope will be this month of July. According to what he has put forward, the “main” issue that he intends to raise during the meeting with Víctor Torres is “the launch of the Bilateral Commission Permanent Cooperation”, because it is “that commission that will allow us to make faster progress in the transfer of powers.” That will be “the main issue” that they want to convey at that meeting, he reiterated.
Regarding the possibility of completing a transfer more or less in the short term, Ubarretxena has insisted on waiting to hold the meeting.
