The negotiating team warns that they will not support a government that “gives up on solving the budget deficit that has been hindering Catalonia’s social and economic progress for decades.”
The ERC team negotiating with the PSC to appoint Salvador Illa as president of the Generalitat and thus avoid an electoral rerun has given the Socialists an ‘ultimatum’ to count on their votes: “without a significant and decisive step forward towards sovereignty, no investment agreement will be possible.
In an article published on Monday in La Vanguardia, signed by Marta Rovira, Josep Maria Jové, Marta Vilalta, Juli Fernàndez and Oriol López, the Republicans affirm that today Catalonia needs “a giant step” that “entails a change in the model of structural, permanent and irreversible financing”.
“Catalonia must stop being treated as a minor,” warn the signatories, who add: “We need unique financing that evolves towards full budgetary sovereignty, based on the bilateral relationship with the State and the collection, management and liquidation of all taxes.”
“We cannot support a government – they continue – that gives up on solving the budget deficit that has been hindering Catalonia’s social and economic progress for decades.”
