There are five women and two men, all Supreme Court judges. To be elected, a three-fifths majority is required (at least 13 out of 20 members).
Of five and a half years late of what the law determines, the new members of the General Council for the Judiciary (CGPJ), elected by the Cortes after the agreement between the PP and the PSOE, held its first plenary session of the institution’s eighth term on Thursday.
During this constituent session, which lasted about an hour, the twenty members submitted a proposal seven candidates to preside over the governing body of the judges and the Supreme Court, whose vote is fixed for the next TuesdayJuly 30 (10:00 am).
Is about five women and two menall magistrates of the supreme: Esperanza Córdoba, Antonio del Moral, Ana Ferrer, Ángeles Huet, Carmen Lamela, Pablo Lucas and Pilar Teso.
The law stipulates that, in order to be eligible for the presidency of the Supreme Court and the CGPJ, candidates must be members of the judicial career in the category of magistrate of the Supreme Court and meet the conditions required to be president of the Chamber of Justice. the same, or be a lawyer of recognized competence with more than 25 years of experience in the exercise of his profession.
The election will take place by roll call vote and with the support of the majority of the population three fifths (at least 13 of the 20 members).
Earlier, the twenty members swore or promised their position before the King in the presence of the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez.
