The leader of the Federation of Union Universities, Doug Petty, insists there will be no united Ireland for posterity

Ulster Union leader Doug Petty launched his party manifesto for the 2022 rally at HMS Caroline, Belfast

United Universities Association leader Doug Petty insists there will be no united Ireland for generations as he accused rivals of using the Brexit protocol as an “election slogan”. Petty announced his party’s manifesto ahead of the assembly elections in May, and said he believed there would be no constitutional change in the lives of his children.

He said problems with the Northern Ireland Protocol must be resolved, but that uncertainty over the fate of disputed trade barriers would not prevent his party from returning to government after the election. In a speech to voters, a spokesman for Uber Ban described the United Federation as a pro-union party that “would do more than just capitulate”.

Stormont’s executive branch collapsed in February when the DUP ousted Paul Giovanni from his position as prime minister in protest of the protocol. Since then, the DUP has warned him against returning to power-sharing until his complaint about cargo inspections in the Irish Sea is considered.

Mr. Other union parties criticized Beatty for his decision to withdraw the union from participating in separatist demonstrations against the protocol. The party leader, whose office in Portadown was ousted after the move was announced on Sunday (March 27), said the demonstrations were used to increase tension before the election.

Speaking in introducing the UUP statement, Petty said: “No matter what others say, there will be no substantive change in Northern Ireland’s constitutional position in the UK. Problems with protocol can and should be addressed.

So, instead of using the protocol as an election slogan, let’s face the issue, the real work, of solving the problems. There will be no united Ireland in my life, and there will be no united Ireland in the lives of my children.

“If you believe this is the basic truth, and I think it is the basic truth, we can put it off to focus on the issues that affect the daily lives of our people who live, work or visit here. Like him. I appeal to all those who believe in Northern Ireland, and its long-term future in the Kingdom. United, to put their hands on their shoulders, raise their voices and support the positives as we work together to address this issue. The negatives.

We have to show our young people that voting gives them a voice and that it is part of their civic duty. “Look, there is a party, a pro-union party, that will do more than give up when we have a positive vision for the future, because Northern Ireland deserves better and the Ulster Unionist Party is that party.”

The World War I battleship has become a magnet for visitors, and HMS Caroline provided a stunning backdrop for the Thursday morning poster launch event in East Belfast. On a surprisingly cold spring day, Beatty addressed party activists and the press while UUP candidates sat behind him.

The unionist leader of Ulster is still unable to understand whether his party will, in principle, take the position of Deputy Prime Minister in Sinn Féin’s first ministerial administration. Both the UUP and the DUP repeatedly refused to confirm whether they would serve as Deputy Prime Minister if Sinn Féin emerged as the largest party and was awarded the position of Prime Minister.

Petty said the UUP will determine its approach to working in the executive branch only after post-election negotiations and what the government’s potential agenda might look like.
