A ban on stabbing weapons is planned in the UK. Citizens who have machetes and so-called ‘zombie knives’ will have to hand them in to the police station by 23 September or risk imprisonment.
“There is no legitimate reason to have a weapon like this in our homes or on our streets,” said Police Secretary Diana Johnson. The stabbing weapons can even be turned in anonymously to police between August 26 and September 23.
The affected are machetes and “zombie knives”, i.e. stabbing weapons with large, decorated blades. It was said that those who give these up before the planned ban will not suffer any disadvantages. Otherwise, there is a risk of imprisonment. The ban, which comes into effect on 24 September, had already been announced by the Conservative government of former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
In Britain, knife attacks are repeatedly killing people, many of them young people. Recently, several young men attacked each other in public with machetes.
