Garikoitz Aspiazu, ‘Txeroki’, is transferred from the French prison of Lannemezan to the Martutene prison

As reported by Etxerat, the prisoner from Bilbao was handed over to Spanish authorities at the border with Irun on Thursday, who transferred him to Martutene prison.

ETA prisoner Garikoitz Aspiazu, Txeroki has been transferred from the French prison of Lannemezan to the Martutene prison in Donostia, where he will continue to serve the sentences imposed by the French justice system.

As reported by Etxerat, the prisoner from Bilbao was handed over to Spanish authorities at the border with Irun on Thursday, who transferred him to Martutene prison.

Penitentiary sources explained that the transfer was carried out on the basis of a request from France, approved in March by the National Court, in application of Law 23/2014 on the mutual recognition of criminal resolutions of the European Union.

Garikoitz Aspiazu, considered the head of ETA until his arrest in 2008, was sentenced to 377 years in prison by the National Court in 2011, while serving at least one 20-year sentence and another eight years in France.
