Local boss breathes a sigh of relief – Hallein: Public Prosecution Service stops all investigations

Date:

Since 2022, the Salzburg Public Prosecutor’s Office has been conducting several investigations against Hallein’s SPÖ mayor Alexander Stangassinger. The charges: breach of trust, abuse of office, breach of official secrecy and much more. Now all proceedings have been stopped.

Hallein local leader Alexander Stangassinger was accused of around 14 offences by politicians and opposition officials. Breach of trust, abuse of office, breach of official secrecy or breach of data protection: the list was long and the file grew thicker month after month. The Public Prosecutor’s Office has now stopped all investigations against Hallein’s local boss.

Stangassinger: “Reject politics with advertising, in effect.”
The mayor’s lawyer, Johannes Zink, says: “I can confirm that all investigations against my client have been stopped. The investigation was based on politically motivated complaints. My client has cooperated fully with the authorities from the beginning and we were able to quickly demonstrate that he has always behaved legally correctly.”

Stangassinger himself says: “It is a pity that there have been repeated attempts in recent years to engage in politics with advertisements. I reject such a thing in principle. Of course I am relieved, because even if you know that you have done nothing wrong, these kinds of investigations always remain in the back of your mind.”
