Graz has been a model region since this year: 15 family members were employed by the city as nurses. Since then, they have been entitled to a salary and social security. A visit to Johann Kargl and his daughter, who take care of him every day – out of love, but also as work.
The small apartment on Brucknerstrasse in Graz has everything Johann Kargl’s retired heart desires: a narrow kitchenette, a spacious balcony, a bedroom and a living room. At the end of the hallway is a very special room: Kargl’s drums are here. “Because Dad was diagnosed with dementia, we were advised that he should do something with his youth,” explains daughter Michaela Reiterer.
