The Mossos suspend the three officers arrested for helping Puigdemont flee

Date:

They remain provisionally suspended while the investigation continues. One of the arrested officers is the owner of the vehicle in which the former Catalan president fled.

The General Directorate of the Catalan Police has approved the provisional suspension of the three Mossos d’Esquadra officers arrested for allegedly helping former Catalan President Carles Puigdemont flee after his fleeting return to Barcelona on August 8.

As confirmed by police sources cited by the EFE news agency, the three officers have been suspended as a precaution while the judicial investigation is opened following their arrest.

The Mossos arrested the three officers for allegedly providing protection and helping Puigdemont flee Barcelona on August 8, although they were released after being brought before a judge.

One of the detained officers is the owner of the vehicle in which Puigdemont fled, although in his case he claimed he had lent the car to a friend in a wheelchair, the woman who was driving when the former president managed to escape without being arrested.

In the report they sent to the Supreme Court on the failed plan to arrest Puigdemont, the Mossos admit that the former Catalan president’s “diversionary manoeuvre”, in a move that “escapes all rational or political logic”, plunged them into a situation of “confusion” and “uncertainty” that prevented him from being arrested.
