The Government of Donald Trump has accidentally released countless employees of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) – including highly qualified experts responsible for monitoring and safety of the American atomar resident. Now the authority wants to undo the termination, but is confronted with an unexpected problem.
Many of the employees involved can no longer be reached because they have lost access to their business E -mail accounts after their resignation. This is the result of internal communication from the authority that NBC News is available.
Civil servants have previously released “with immediate effect”
The dismissals took place on Thursday in the middle of an extensive staff reduction of the federal government, which is being promoted by Trump and his consultant Elon Musk. The aim of these measures is to drastically reduce the size of the state apparatus. As part of these cuts, countless NNSA employees suddenly received the announcement that their contracts were “with immediate effect”.
Experts are missing for nuclear safety
According to a report from NBC News, the mass release in particular included so -called “probationary period -employee”, ie employees who are still during the trial period. However, this was not only administrative staff, but also scientists, engineers and security experts who are involved in the maintenance and administration of the American nuclear arsenal.
A particularly sensitive time: the termination was pronounced just a few hours after a Russian drone attack on the former Tschernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine. The NNSA is responsible for monitoring nuclear risks worldwide – also through sensor systems in conflict regions such as Ukraine.
Confusion when renting
On Friday, just one day after the dismissals, the Trump government decided to undo some of these terminations. But there was a problem: many of the rejected employees could no longer be achieved because they had lost access to their business E -mail accounts after their sudden dismissal.
In an internal e -mail that is NBC news available, the NNSA asked its remaining employees to look for private contact options for the people affected. “The letter of termination of some NNSA, example, are reversed, but we don’t have a good opportunity to contact these people,” says the message.
Colleagues must help with the search
The employees involved must now be informed by colleagues or superiors. The letter continues: “Work together with your superiors to send this information as soon as you receive it to the private e-mail addresses of the person concerned.”
The fired and subsequent chaotic repetition caused enormous criticism. The Democrats and various trade unions condemned the measure as “irresponsible” and “a serious danger to national security”.
It was particularly sharp criticized that the dismissals were apparently pronounced without accurate research and that even employees were affected whose expertise for the safety of the country is crucial.
Released: “I no longer have trust”
A released NNSA expert told NBC News: “I am still locked up from my systems, but my supervisor called me and let me know that my termination was being lifted and that I should be released on Tuesday.” For a new job: “I have no confidence that my work is safe.”
The NNSA is not the only authority affected by the cancellations of the staff. In total, thousands of areas were removed in various ministries. The situation in the Ministry of Homeland Protection was particularly drastic, where more than 400 employees were released.
Trump and Musk try to cut clearly
The cutbacks are part of an extensive plan with which Trump and Musk want to reduce the bureaucracy of the federal government. But the implementation is apparently so hasty that there are always massive problems-the discharge and the repetition of nuclear weapons experts must be the largest faux pass so far.
The Democrats and various progressive organizations have already taken legal action. At present, more than 60 lawsuits against Trump government’s personnel policy are being processed.
