Another concept is in circulation. The so-called variant management plan of the federal government has 64 pages, on the basis of which the quarantine will be abolished in the short term. That the leaked plan also foresees possible lockdowns is already making headlines – on closer inspection, however, it becomes clear that “avoiding new lockdowns” is listed as the “top priority”.
“For the working areas, business and tourism, the primary aim of all measures should be as normal as possible,” emphasizes the newspaper of the Federal Chancellery and the Ministry of Health. It examines the past pandemic years in detail and tries to draw lessons from them. Finally, four possible scenarios are described for the near future or the autumn.
“Very unfavorable case”
The “worst case” of course causes a stir – some excerpts of the “worst case” from the latest version:
- “Substantially more virulent and highly transmissible variants are developing, against which available vaccines are less effective”;
- “Possible development of resistance amplifies the dynamics of the pandemic”;
- “The proportion of infected people who suffer from long-term consequences is increasing”;
- “There are renewed waves that are driving very high rates of infections and hospitalizations.”
In short: the pandemic is increasing to approximately the level of the delta variant (2020/21). In this case, the Chancellery and the Ministry consider “further NPOs” (so-called non-pharmaceutical interventions, ie non-pharmaceutical interventions in social life) conceivable. “Until lockdowns”, as it’s called. There may also be “huge restrictions” on travel again.
In the other three scenarios (more on this soon on krone.at) NPIs are also involved, but here masks or greater distance rules seem to be in the foreground.
