The communities in Styria have to tighten their belts financially. In Bruck and Fohnsdorf, a budget freeze had to be announced before the summer; only core expenditures can be made. In total, the liquidity situation is tense in 51 municipalities. The state capital is no exception – on the contrary: almost as soon as the dark red-green-red coalition took office, the city’s audit office warned of impending bankruptcy, which made front-page news throughout Austria.
