The general coordinator of EH Bildu has participated in LAB’s 10th National Congress, where he encouraged the trade union movement to make “a reflection” on “how it contributes to the process of national liberation”.

The general coordinator of EH Bildu, Arnaldo Otegic, has warned that in the coming years there are only “two options, stay on the current path or submit to a reactionary wave”, a situation in which “there is no room for frivolity” and it is necessary to “articulate a popular national block” to address existing challenges. In this context, he has defended the “recipe” of “creating broad fronts and minimal programs” against the challenges of the future and has also encouraged unions to “think” about “how it contributes to the process of national liberation”.
During his speech at the 10th National Congress of LABOtegi recalled the international context of “general impoverishment dynamics in the world” and climate change, in which “Euskal Herria still lacks sovereignty” to face “major challenges”.
In this context, he sees the need to ask “how to face the necessary strategies to ensure our national survival, the lack of sovereignty, the lack of national recognition.” In his opinion, “this requires a national strategy to answer.”
“We have always believed that the sovereign project for independence is the one suitable for the Basque workers to respond to the challenges they will face in the future. That is why it is important that the union reflection in this regard to see how it contributes to the process of national liberation from a perspective as workers, as union members,” he said.
After acknowledging that “not everything is done right” at EH Bildu, he emphasized that he is always trying “where we are and when agreements are made, to make progress”. As he has pointed out, although “sometimes we will stumble, we will make mistakes, we will have our contradictions, we will move forward and we want to follow this path with the union majority, with whom we are trying to bring the demands of this union majority to the institutions
“This is something that we also want to do with LAB because we understand that it is part of the national popular independence bloc,” said Arnaldo Otegi, who has shown “complete confidence” in it. “we are increasingly located throughout Europe” In this sense, he has stated that “the growing left, which carries the social majorities behind it, is the sovereign left.”
