Due to a technical error, 520 voters in Steyr received an incorrect email with an incorrect shipping number for their requested voting card. It is the next accident in Upper Austria after personalized ballots were put in wrong envelopes at the Frankenmarkt.
520 Styrians received an automated email after requesting a voting card for the National Council elections. The problem was that it was incorrect and contained an incorrect tracking number, which in the worst case meant that the ballots could not be picked up at the post office. The city then sent the correct data in a second email.
Bug has been fixed
The city has already informed about this. The error lies with the software and not within your own control. And it must be fixed: “There is no 1000 percent certainty, but we assume that the applications will be processed correctly from now on,” the city hall tells the “Krone”.
And the 520 citizens who were initially hit by the fake emails should also receive their voting cards soon. They were sent by mail on Monday evening.

This was preceded by night shifts for city employees during the weekend. “The colleagues compared the postal numbers on the voting cards and in the emails,” says the municipality.
It is already the second crisis in Upper Austria. At the Frankenmarkt, as reported, some ballots were sorted into incorrect envelopes. The error was noticed because a couple reported: Although we had the correct envelopes, we received the voting cards of others.
