Tanja Pfaffeneder now welcomes the guests of “CLUB 3” to the oldest luxury hotel in the federal capital: the Grand Hotel. Governor of Burgenland Hans Peter Doskozil, pollster Christoph Haselmayer and journalist and author Stefan Kaltenbrunner take a seat in the stylish Wagemut Kavalierbar.
Austria will vote on September 29 and current polls show that the FPÖ is clearly in first place. Accordingly, the Burgenland SPÖ leader was convinced that the FPÖ and ÖVP will govern after the elections: “These will be the facts that even the Federal President will not be able to avoid. That is what the constitution allows us to give a government mandate to Herbert Kickl.”
“ÖVP will take this step”
You only have to look at what happened in Lower Austria, “how hated this election campaign was and what kind of coalition we have now.” The ÖVP will take important departments such as finance, interior and justice and say that this will guarantee stability and the rule of law. “I really believe that the ÖVP will take this step because of the will to power, the offices and the ministries,” Doskozil said.
“Hypocritical asylum policy”
Another important topic in the discussion was asylum and migration. The SPÖ politician criticized the current federal policy as ‘hypocritical’. “90 percent of negative decisions are not implemented,” says Doskozil. “If a judge has decided that someone should be deported to Syria or Afghanistan, the government must also implement this decision,” Doskozil is certain.
Campaign ‘Live nonchalant’
In terms of his state policy, Doskozil is certain that he is on the right track. Landesholding Burgenland and its subsidiaries have contributed to the development of Burgenland in recent years. The new campaign “Live nonchalant – Burgenland” is intended to highlight the region’s strengths – in health care, affordable housing, business and tourism.
“We want to offer the population something. In times when we are debating immigration, jobs or even primary residences – keyword tax on second homes in Vienna – we do not want to regulate this through taxes, but show how worthwhile it is to live in Burgenland,” the governor emphasized.
You can watch “CLUB 3” every Tuesday from 10:15 PM
