A global superstar is shaking up the US election campaign: first Donald Trump looked bad in the TV duel against his opponent Kamala Harris and shortly after Taylor Swift also made her recommendation for the Democrat. The Republican’s collar is now bursting.
On Wednesday, Trump accused right-wing channel Fox News of rigging the televised duel. In addition, American singer Taylor Swift will pay a “price” for her support for Harris.
“It was a setup, just as I suspected,” Trump said Tuesday night on Fox News about the ABC-aired debate, noting that in his case “everything” had been corrected by moderators — but not in Harris’s case.
Trump is “not a fan” of Taylor Swift
Trump told singer Swift, who announced her support for Harris shortly after the debate, that he was “not a fan” of the superstar. She is “a very liberal person” and “always seems to support a Democrat.” In the music market, she will “probably pay a price for that.”
Immediately after the TV duel, Swift surprisingly spoke out in favor of the Democrat. The singer wrote that she had watched the TV debate. It is a good time to learn more about the respective positions of the candidates. Referring to Harris, she said: “I see her as a level-headed, gifted leader and believe that we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are guided by calm and not chaos.”
The extent to which Swift will ultimately influence the presidential election is difficult to gauge. Hillary Clinton also lost to the Republican in 2016, despite superstars like Beyoncé and Jay-Z joining her campaign. Some Trump supporters may still be irritated by Swift’s decision, as the 34-year-old is also considered a country icon and is revered outside the young pop scene.
Trump lied continuously during the TV debate
According to CNN, Trump spread over 33 verifiable lies during the TV duel. Harris told one. In the aggressive TV duel, the Democrat pushed her Republican opponent Trump on the defensive.
Harris repeatedly drew angry responses from the former president during the 90-minute debate on topics ranging from abortion to foreign policy.
Trump complained about his correction over the phone:
Trump’s rage culminated in an absurd claim that migrants from Haiti were eating dogs and cats belonging to Americans in Springfield, Ohio. He allegedly saw it “on TV.” His campaign criticized ABC for refuting his statement during the live debate.
Haiti outraged by Trump’s comments
Sadly, it is not the first time that “compatriots abroad have been victims of disinformation campaigns, stigmatized and dehumanized to serve electoral political interests,” the Haitian government said indignantly. In recent days, top Republicans have shared false claims about Haitian migrants stealing and eating pets on online networks, stoking fears about immigrants.
It remains to be seen how much his momentous performance will influence the presidential election on November 5. So far, Harris and Trump are neck and neck in the polls.
